Taxpayers Pick Up Tab for Officials’ Desert Retreats
Los Angeles County officials say they have sent employees on out-of-town management retreats that have cost the financially strapped county thousands of dollars.
Dozens of employees of the Administrative Office’s Emergency Preparedness Division were sent on retreats at a hotel near Palm Springs in 1989 and 1990, Chief Administrative Officer Richard B. Dixon said Thursday. The two retreats cost taxpayers a total of about $64,000, Dixon said. A third such trip is planned later this year, he said.
Seventeen middle-level managers in Dixon’s office spent a weekend earlier this month at the Newport Sheraton in Orange County for a training seminar. Dixon said he did not know the cost of that trip.
