California IN BRIEF : NATIONAL CITY : Driver Falls Asleep, Is Killed in Accident

A 32-year-old Orange County man was killed early Sunday when he fell asleep while northbound on Interstate 805 near Sweetwater Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Jesus Avila Tinoco of Westminster was driving his truck about 6:20 a.m. when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel, authorities said. The truck veered to the right of the road and struck a guardrail. Tinoco was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he died in the operating room about 10 a.m., authorities said.
