La Puente : Disc Jockey Request Denied
A cocktail lounge linked in a sheriff’s report to several violent crimes last year will not be allowed to expand its entertainment to include disc jockeys.
The City Council on Tuesday voted 4 to 0, with Mayor Charles H. Storing abstaining, to deny the necessary permit to Pedro Sandoval, who took over operation of the Hi Brow Lounge in June. The council action limits Sandoval to providing dance music with a jukebox.
In denying the request, the council agreed with Planning Commission findings that the addition of disc jockey entertainment could lead to noise and overcrowding problems, as well as increased criminal activity.
Earlier this year, the Hi Brow’s request for a live entertainment permit was turned down after the Sheriff’s Department reported it had been linked to arrests for four assaults, five grand thefts, one robbery and one murder.
