Wendell K. Phillips; Actor, Director, Playwright
Wendell K. Phillips, 83, Broadway and film actor, director and playwright for more than 40 years. He helped found New York’s Actors Repertory Theatre and in 1978 founded his own acting company in Berkeley. Born in Blandinsville, Ill., Phillips was educated at the Elgin Academy and the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago. His films included “The Glass Case” in 1939 and “The Kiss of Death” in 1947. On Oct. 6 in Berkeley of emphysema.
