Documentary Assn. Cites Kopple, Burns
Academy Award documentary winner “American Dream” by Barbara Kopple, and the Emmy-winning “The Civil War” by Ken Burns were among the winners of Distinguished Achievement Awards from the International Documentary Assn. on Friday night.
The IDA also honored Bill Moyers of PBS’ “Bill Moyers’ Journal” with the Career Achievement Award for documentaries on social, political and international issues over the last 20 years.
Five documentary films in all were honored out of 200 entries from 14 countries in the IDA’s seventh annual competition.
Other winners are: Peter Adair for “Absolutely Positive,” Marlon T. Riggs for “Color Adjustment,” and Susan Fromke, Peter Gelb, Albert Maysles and Bob Eisenhardt for “Soldiers of Music.”
