Tiny Dog Saves Woman From 80-Pound Canine
BUFFALO, N.Y. — An elderly woman being mauled by an 80-pound dog was saved when a 12-pound Yorkshire terrier took on her attacker, police said.
Lillian Woodside, 79, was sweeping leaves in front of her home when an Akita got out of its fenced-in yard at a nearby home and attacked her, officers said.
A neighbor said that his terrier, Oliver, heard the commotion and ran at the larger dog.
Two neighbors driving by rescued the woman, who was in fair condition Friday with injuries to her arm. Oliver, who was bitten several times, needed nine stitches. The Akita was taken into custody by animal control officials.
