Newbury Park 27, Westlake 21--Newbury Park (2-6, 2-3) won its second in a row behind quarterback Keith Smith at Newbury Park. Smith completed 14 of 25 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns.
With Newbury Park leading, 21-14, and with 11:44 to play, Westlake (3-5, 2-3) was stopped on fourth and three at the Panther 15-yard line after marching 56 yards in 11 plays.
On Newbury Park’s ensuing possession, the Panthers marched 84 yards in 14 plays. The drive was capped by Smith’s second touchdown pass, an 18-yard strike to wide receiver Leodes Van Buren, who danced down the sideline after the catch.
Van Buren finished with six catches for 71 yards and a touchdown.
In spite of a 14-14 halftime score, Westlake dominated the first half with 218 yards. Tim Kirksey completed 13 first-half passes, including two touchdowns to wide receiver Erik Holcomb. Overall, Kirksey completed 22 of 39 passes for 245 yards, two touchdowns and threw one interception.
Holcomb caught 15 passes for 171 and three touchdowns. He added 38 yards rushing for a total of 209 all-purpose yards.
