Laguna Beach Assistant Coach Won’t Be Punished
Barbara Callard, Laguna Beach High School principal, said Thursday that no disciplinary action will be taken against assistant football coach Mike Klingenmeier, who was involved in the Artists’ bench-clearing brawl with Costa Mesa last Friday night.
Klingenmeier had been accused of punching a Costa Mesa player during the brawl, which took place in the third quarter of Costa Mesa’s 38-0 Pacific Coast League victory.
Callard said Klingenmeier and other coaches were “acting in their best interests to restore order on the field.” She and other school officials had reviewed several films of the incident and decided not to take any action.
“We’ve watched the tapes with the coaching staff and have had a counseling session with them,” Callard said. “We’ve watched a lot of game film in the last few days.”
