Hershiser’s Decision Is Strictly Business
Last spring, I read an article about Orel Hershiser in the L.A. Times. Orel spoke of how well the Dodgers had treated him during his injury and rehabilitation. The Dodgers not only paid him millions for not playing but also provided the finest doctors for him. Orel also stated that financially he was set for life.
How does Orel repay the Dodgers for all of this? He declares free agency, which will allow him to get richer. I understand that baseball is a big business, but I also know that there is always a place for loyalty. I am not a Dodger fan and couldn’t care less if he re-signs with them. Orel did the American thing and pursued the almighty dollar, but personally I think he blew it.
