OXNARD : 3 Are Wounded in Street Shootings
Two Oxnard teen-agers were recovering at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after being shot as they stood on the street, police said Saturday.
A nursing supervisor said Raymond Lara, 19, was in fair condition after suffering a gunshot wound in the buttocks. Police have withheld the identity of a 14-year-old boy who was also wounded.
Police said the two youths were wounded as they stood in the 900 block of Cedar Court about 8 p.m. Friday. A passenger in a dark-colored vehicle opened fire on them with a small-caliber handgun, according to a police report.
Sgt. Frank Devorick said the motive for the attack is still unknown. An investigation is continuing.
In an unrelated shooting, Preston Avery, 24, of Oxnard was listed in fair condition at St. John’s hospital after being shot several times about 9:45 p.m. Thursday as he stood in the 5000 block of South J Street in Oxnard.
Police said Avery had became involved in an argument with five men, age 17 to 20, wearing dark clothing and black Los Angeles Raiders jackets. One of the men struck Avery in the face and shot him several times with a handgun, police said.
Devorick said police had no further information about either of the shootings.
