SIMI VALLEY : Car Kills Woman Crossing Street
A 69-year-old Simi Valley woman was killed and her 47-year-old daughter was seriously injured after they were hit by a car while crossing Cochran Street, officials said Tuesday.
Asencion Quezada and her daughter, Marguartia, were just east of Vanessa Street about 6:45 p.m. Monday when they were struck by a car driven by Ingrid Quesada, 19, also of Simi Valley, a spokesman for the Simi Valley Police Department said.
Ingrid Quesada, who is not related to the other two women, was driving west when she hit the Quezadas, who were not in a crosswalk, the spokesman said.
The driver was not cited in the accident.
The elder Quezada was pronounced dead on arrival at Simi Valley Hospital, said Ventura County Deputy Coroner Jim Wingate.
Marguartia Quezada was in serious condition Tuesday with severe internal injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Ventura County Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said Quezada’s death was the 61st traffic fatality in the county this year.
She was the 12th pedestrian to die after being struck by an automobile, he said.
