Markado died Saturday of heart failure, said his wife, Mary Markado.

Born in Chicago, Markado served in the Marine Corps during World War II. After he was discharged, Markado worked as an electronic engineer for Acme New Pictures in Chicago and New York, and for United Press International in Los Angeles.

He worked as a copy boy and part-time photographer for the now-defunct Los Angeles Daily News from 1951 to 1954 and later as a photographer for North American Aviation.

In 1978, he began working for the Westside and South Bay sections and later transferred to the San Gabriel Valley section, where he worked until he left the paper due to a disability in 1985.

He was past treasurer of the Press Photographers Assn. of Greater Los Angeles and a founding board member of the now-defunct San Fernando Valley Press Club.

In addition to his wife of 36 years, Markado is survived by a son, Michael Markado of Moorpark; daughter, Nancy Futterman of Calabasas; brother, Marvin Markado of North Hollywood, and two grandchildren.
