Drowned Navy Diver Suffered Heart Attack
The Navy SEAL whose body was found after a two-day search off La Jolla had suffered a heart attack and drowned, the medical examiner’s office said Tuesday.
Chief Petty Officer David E. Billings, 41, of Melbourne, Fla., suffered “an acute coronary thrombosis,” investigator Robert Engel said.
He said the attack contributed to Billings’ drowning, based on an autopsy completed Tuesday.
Billings, a veteran diver, was reported missing Sunday morning by his wife after he failed to return from a recreational dive.
