A Miami Loss Helps Bowl in Miami; Freedom Bowl Eyes WAC Runner-Up
Blockbuster and Freedom bowl officials would not mind seeing their prospective teams lose Saturday.
A Miami loss to Florida State Saturday would send the Hurricanes to the Blockbuster Bowl in Miami’s Joe Robbie Stadium on Dec. 28, probably against Alabama. That was clear Tuesday when Miami Athletic Director Dave Maggard ruled out the Cotton Bowl as a postseason possibility by saying, “We were there last year.”
Meanwhile, sources close to the Freedom Bowl said the Western Athletic Conference runner-up--the loser of Saturday’s San Diego State-Brigham Young game--will be invited to the Dec. 30 game at Anaheim.
Official bowl bids cannot be extended until noon Sunday, with the bowls that violate this rule facing a $250,000 fine.
