County’s Bid to Study 2 Hospital Sites Rejected
The El Monte City Council unanimously rejected a request by Los Angeles County on Tuesday to consider two possible sites for a newly proposed East Valley Medical Center.
The county, which is seeking about 30 acres for the hospital, asked El Monte to consider a hospital at either Valley Boulevard and Arden Drive or Flair Park, City Administrator Gregory D. Korduner said.
In rejecting the proposal, the council cited increased traffic, loss of jobs and possible interference with the flight path from El Monte Airport. Building the hospital at the Valley Boulevard site would require Ball Corp. to move its Arden Drive facility, causing a significant loss of jobs in the city, Korduner said. El Monte joins the cities of Industry, Irwindale and Pico Rivera in voting against proposed hospital sites, all stating similar concerns.
