Associated Press
ZURICH, Switzerland — The strongest earthquake in Switzerland since 1946 damaged buildings Wednesday in the eastern Alps but caused no injuries, officials said.
Tremors from the magnitude 5.5 quake were felt in neighboring areas of the Italian Alps and around Basel, Switzerland, 125 miles northwest of the epicenter, the Swiss Federal Seismological Service said.
It was the strongest earthquake since one believed to have been greater than a magnitude 7 in 1946, Seismological Service spokesman Andre Blanchard said.
