Israelis, Militia Shell S. Lebanon Villages
TYRE, Lebanon — Israeli and allied militia gunners shelled villages in southern Lebanon after guerrilla bombs wounded at least two Israeli soldiers, security officials said Wednesday.
About 30 heavy artillery shells hit the village of Majdel Selm, at the western tip of the Jewish state’s self-declared security zone. There were no reports of casualties from the shelling.
The Israeli soldiers were wounded by two bombs planted just north of the Israeli border with Lebanon. The Islamic Resistance, a coalition of militant groups led by the Iranian-inspired Hezbollah (Party of God), claimed responsibility for the bombings.
