Magic and AIDS: The Story Continues
International Olympic Committee President Juan Antonio Samaranch has “recently declared his support for Magic Johnson and reiterated that HIV-positive athletes are still eligible to compete in the Games” (Nov. 26). Does he know that according to U.S. immigration laws, in 1996 those same athletes or any of their family members who may be HIV-positive will not be welcome in Atlanta? Unless you can get a special waiver, you are not allowed to enter this country if you are known to be HIV-positive. So Magic, don’t move out of the country or you won’t be welcome for the 1996 Olympics.
