Prime Minister of Soviet Kyrgyzstan Dies in Traffic Accident; Took Job This Year
MOSCOW — The prime minister of the Soviet Central Asian republic of Kyrgyzstan was killed Friday in a traffic accident, news agencies reported.
Nasirdin Isanov, 49, was killed when a truck driving on the wrong side of the road hit his vehicle as he was traveling from the city of Osh to Dzhalalabad, the Soviet news agency Tass reported.
An American from the Siabek Group firm, identified only as Bernstein, was accompanying Isanov. Neither he nor the driver of the vehicle was injured, the Russian Information Agency reported.
Isanov was on his way to the Makmak Zoloto gold-mining facility, RIA reported. He and the American were discussing the possibility of the Siabek Group issuing credits to Kyrgyzstan.
Isanov was elected vice president of Kyrgyzstan, formerly Kirghizia, in 1990 and was appointed prime minister this year, according to the republic’s mission in Moscow. The prime minister’s post is largely ceremonial.
Isanov began working as a construction worker at age 17, eventually receiving a diploma from the Moscow Engineering and Construction Institute, Tass said. He later worked for the Kirgizia Construction Ministry.
