New Yorba Linda Mayor Is Chosen
YORBA LINDA — Longtime Councilman Irwin M. Fried has been named Yorba Linda’s mayor for the next year, succeeding Mark Schwing.
This will be the fourth time Fried, 59, has served as mayor. He has been on the council since 1976 and is in his fourth term. His council seat is up for reelection next year.
Before he came to the council, Fried served on the Planning Commission for four years. He is a native of New York and moved to Yorba Linda in 1967. He has a legal practice in Tustin specializing in business litigation.
Attorney John M. Gullixson, 43, who was elected to the council in 1990, was named mayor pro tem at the council’s meeting this week. He will serve as mayor in Fried’s absence and, traditionally, will be in line to succeed him as mayor next year.
