Case Dismissed: Singer Engelbert Humperdinck’s libel suit against the National Enquirer for falsely reporting that he had the AIDS virus has been rejected by a federal appeals court. The article was based on a court document, a statement by a woman who had won a New York paternity judgment against Humperdinck. The statement was false, but the tabloid was immune from libel because it published a “fair and true report” of it, said the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.
