‘Hook’ Numbers: Steven Spielberg’s much anticipated holiday movie, “Hook,” opened to $2.1 million in box-office grosses for a single preview on Tuesday and a full day of showings on Wednesday on 2,197 screens. TriStar executive vice president of distribution William Soady said the opening numbers suggest a strong weekend ahead. The opening of a major movie in the middle of a non-holiday week made box-office gross comparisons virtually impossible. Paramount’s “The Addams Family,” which opened on a greater number of screens on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, collected $3 million.
