HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SOUTHERN SECTION CHAMPIONSHIPS : DIVISION VIII
Morningside 27, Temecula Valley 20--Morningside won its first Southern Section football title, holding off a last-minute drive to the 10-yard line.
As it was during the season, the Monarchs were led by quarterback Stais Boseman, who passed for one touchdown, ran for another and set up a third with a long return. Morningside also had clutch defensive performances from Jesse Swayze and Montre Gords. Swayze recovered a fumble at the Monarch one and Gords intercepted a fourth-quarter pass in the end zone.
Boseman completed three of 12 for 60 yards but finished with a game-high 146 rushing yards. Gords added 95 yards and two touchdowns.
DIVISION IX
Carpinteria 14, Tehachapi 7--Tim Jiminez scored on a three-yard run with 9:12 remaining to give Carpinteria the winning touchdown.
Carpinteria finished with a 12-2 record. Tehachapi was 10-4.
