Webber, a workhorse during the Hawks’ first three playoff games, went a step further Friday night in the Division VII title game against Trabuco Hills. He carried the ball 42 times for 278 yards, and his two fourth-quarter touchdowns gave Laguna Hills a 35-28 victory. In the second half, Webber carried on 26 of Laguna Hills’ 32 offensive plays. “We didn’t really plan on that,” Laguna Hills Coach Steve Bresnahan said. “We felt like we had to mix the run and the pass to move the ball, but Dave said, ‘Just give me the ball.’ He seemed possessed. He could have gone on another 20 carries. He just didn’t get tired.. . . It was definitely a team effort, but Dave really had it going. You weren’t going to tackle him with one or two guys--it was going to take more than that.” Webber finished the season with 2,048 yards--887 of which came in the four playoff games.

Other top performers:

Billy Blanton, who passed for 257 yards and three touchdowns in Mater Dei’s 35-14 victory over Eisenhower in the Division I title game.

Jason Boyce, who scored three goals in two Corona del Mar soccer victories, including a 4-0 triumph over Saddleback in the championship match of the Irvine tournament.
