INFREQUENT FLIERS: Passenger numbers remain up at the new and improved John Wayne Airport, bucking the trend at other major airports. . . . But Northwest Airlines isn’t sharing the bounty. Northwest will drop one of its two low-noise departures next year because it can’t fill the plane and because other airlines are clamoring for the slot. A spokesman for Minnesota-based Northwest says its snowbound customers may prefer hotter spots in Arizona and Florida.
