San Gabriel High Runner Wins State Cross-Country Title
Angel Martinez of San Gabriel High won the Division I boys’ race at the state high school cross-country championships Nov. 30 in Fresno.
Martinez, a senior, ran the 5,000-meter course in 15 minutes, 6 seconds to edge Margarito Casillas, a junior at Glendale Hoover High, who finished second in 15:14. Cruz Gallegos of Corona Centennial High was third in 15:20.
In the boys Division I team competition, San Gabriel was fourth behind Hart, Peninsula and Madera high schools. Bell High finished seventh. In the girls Division I event, Belmont High finished eighth. Bell’s boys team and Belmont’s girls squad were the Los Angeles city champions.
