MISSION VIEJO : Dead Boy’s Parents Absolve Driver
The parents of 5-year-old Brian Marek, who died Monday after skating into the path of an oncoming truck, said Monday that they harbor no ill will toward the driver of the vehicle and remembered their son Tuesday as a “very active young boy.”
“We have no hate in our hearts and don’t anticipate any,” said Brian’s father, Marine Corps Capt. Mark Marek, who is stationed at the El Toro air base. “I don’t even know the driver of the truck.”
No charges have been filed against the 17-year-old Mission Viejo youth who was driving the Chevy Blazer, authorities said. Neighbors and Sheriff’s Department investigators said the Montevideo Elementary School kindergartner was skating out from the driveway of his home about 3:15 p.m. when he was hit by the vehicle’s front bumper and killed instantly.
The Sheriff’s Department continued their investigation into the incident, which Marek described as an “unfortunate accident.”
