Glendale : Man Charged in Shootout

A Los Angeles man was charged Tuesday with the attempted murder of a liquor store owner during a robbery and shootout last week in Glendale, authorities said.

Terry Lewis Traylor, 29, was arrested Dec. 26 at California Medical Center, where he sought treatment for bullet wounds in the neck and jaw, Glendale Police Sgt. Lief Nicolaisen said. Traylor was later transferred to the infirmary at Los Angeles County Jail.

Investigators believe Traylor is the man who entered Esquire Liquor, 5300 San Fernando Road, earlier that evening, drew a handgun and demanded money from the store’s owner, Chang Kun Lee, 56, of Glendale. After being led to the freezer, Lee pulled out his own handgun and began exchanging shots with the robber, police said.

A second robber entered and joined in the gun battle before the intruders fled, police said. Investigators said 22 shots were fired. Lee was wounded in the arm, but a store clerk who was also present during the gun battle was not injured.

Traylor was charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, Deputy Dist. Atty. Lawrence McGrail said. Police were searching this week for two other suspects in the holdup.
