MEINERS OAKS : Tree-Light Fire Burns Mobile Home
Fire destroyed a mobile home in Meiners Oaks early Wednesday, leaving two people homeless and causing at least $120,000 in damage, a county Fire Department spokesman said.
The double-wide mobile home, parked between two others at 950 Woodland Ave., caught fire about 12:23 a.m. when Christmas tree lights ignited, Capt. Norman Plott said. Four engine companies and 15 firefighters responded to the fire and prevented it from moving to any of the surrounding units, Plott said. It was doused by 1 a.m.
A woman resident who had been resting on a couch in the living room told firefighters that she heard a loud noise and then saw smoke, after which she summoned her husband from their bedroom, Plott said. The two fled and were not injured, Plott said.
Flames destroyed the trailer, valued at $98,000, along with a Ford Bronco and other possessions valued at $22,000.
