VALENTINO’S FORTE IS ITALIAN wines; that’s the strength at Posto, too. Among those you might be tempted to try are the 1990 Bianco di Custoza from Tadiello (an attractive Soave-type wine, $20), 1989 Arneis from Deltetto (fresh and soft, $22), 1988 Vignalta Gemola (a Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend, $30), 1985 Pio Cesare Barbaresco (from a superb vintage, $40) and the sublime 1988 Prunaio from Viticcio (an all-Sangiovese wine with depth and richness, $40).
Values in American wines include 1989 Fisher Chardonnay, $21; 1990 Qupe Chardonnay, $26; 1984 Forman Cabernet Sauvignon, $40; 1988 Etude Pinot Noir, $27; 1987 Matanzas Creek Merlot, $27, and 1989 Atlas Peak Sangiovese (which, at $30, is just $5 above suggested retail; I saw this on another wine list at $50).
