SIMI VALLEY : Meeting Slated on Kadota Fig Future

Residents and property owners from Simi Valley’s Kadota Fig area are invited to meet with city officials today to give their views on whether the mostly rural neighborhood should be rezoned to encourage more development.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center, 3900 Avenida Simi.

A special committee, headed by Councilwomen Sandi Webb and Judy Mikels, will preside over the meeting, city officials said. The committee, which also includes nine property owners, will use the public testimony to help them advise the City Council on whether portions of the neighborhood’s zoning should be changed to allow more development or remain as is.

Kadota Fig encompasses 448 acres bounded by Tapo Canyon Road on the west, Alamo Street on the north, Stearns Street on the east and Cochran Street on the south. Provisions in the present zoning allow property owners to keep horses, pigs and other farm animals on their land.

But residents in recent years have been at odds over whether the area’s zoning should be changed, particularly south of the Simi Valley Freeway, which runs through the area.

The public may also submit written comments to the Simi Valley Department of Environmental Services.
