Fugitive Flees After Mention on TV Show
Faster than his dinner cooled, a Los Angeles-area man sought for questioning in connection with a murder investigation apparently disappeared when his name was mentioned on the television program, “America’s Most Wanted.”
An uneaten Chinese dinner was left on the coffee table of Billy Ray Riggs’ Inglewood residence when he disappeared Friday night, Riverside County authorities said Wednesday. The dinner was still warm when police, acting on a telephoned tip, arrived.
Riggs is being sought in connection with the murder of Jamie Bowie, 24, who disappeared last April on Interstate 10 in Arizona as she was driving from Phoenix to her home in Van Nuys. Bowie’s body was later found near Indio. She had been shot.
Sheriff’s Detective Sal Pina said that he contacted “America’s Most Wanted” producers and that the show generated 173 phone calls. “Even his blood relatives were calling with information,” Pina said.
