Peters to Forgo 1992 Season at Northridge in Hopes of Joining Spring Football League
Wide receiver Paul Peters, Cal State Northridge’s leading scorer in 1991, will forgo his final season of eligibility to try to earn a roster position in the new Professional Spring Football League.
Peters was chosen in the 38th round Tuesday by the Oregon Lightning Bolts. In 1991, he scored 38 points on six touchdowns and a two-point conversion and caught 29 passes for 453 yards.
Peters, 23, played two years at Rancho Santiago Junior College before coming to Northridge in 1990. He sustained a broken right clavicle in the second game of the season and was awarded a medical redshirt season.
Two former Matadors were selected Tuesday, increasing the school’s total to 10.
Linebacker Terrell Taylor, an All-Western Football Conference selection in 1990, was picked by the New Mexico Rattlesnakes in the 23rd round, and Dester Stowers, an all-conference defensive lineman in 1986 and 1987, was picked by the Washington Marauders in the 27th round.
All players selected had signed letters of commitment with the 10-team league, which is scheduled to open its inaugural season Feb. 29.
