Coronado
A recreational diver died of unknown causes Saturday afternoon off Coronado, despite the efforts of lifeguards and doctors at UCSD Medical Center, authorities said.
Richard Thomas Brower, 48, of Glendale, Ariz., was transported to UCSD Medical Center after the Coast Guard responded to a 3 p.m. call of a “dive accident,” said Alan Dusi, a spokesman for the United States Coast Guards of San Diego.
Brower was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene aboard the Sand Dollar, a diving boat from Point Loma Sport Fishing. Brower was hoisted onto a Coast Guard helicopter and CPR continued en route to the medical center, Dusi said.
Brower died at the medical center at 4:44 p.m., a county medical examiner said.
An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is scheduled for Monday.
