Officer Wounded in Inglewood Shootout
An Inglewood police officer was wounded early Sunday during a shootout with assailants in a passing car, authorities said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was reported in satisfactory condition at a hospital after being shot once in the shoulder, said Officer Cary Tomlinson.
The officer had been called to the 500 block of South Eucalyptus Avenue at about 1 a.m. to check reports of shooting, Tomlinson said. As he and other officers searched the area, they were fired on by the assailants, who were in a small car that sped by on Hillcrest Boulevard.
The officer, who joined the department seven months ago, was shot as he and other officers returned fire. The car was found abandoned several blocks away.
