LAKE FOREST : Council Won’t Fund Competing Chamber
Refusing to play favorites, the Lake Forest City Council has declined to hear a request to fund one of two competing chambers of commerce.
Three council members opposed supporting the newly formed Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce with a $12,000 annual grant. The proposal had been put forward by Councilwoman Marcia Rudolph.
Mayor Helen Wilson, along with Council members Richard T. dixon and Tim Link, said that funding the new chamber would show preference for it over the Lake Forest chapter of the South Orange County Chamber of Commerce.
The opponents said they wanted to be cautious about spending the newly incorporated city’s money.
Dissatisfied with the larger chamber’s commitment to the Lake Forest area, members of the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce organized the group last October, saying they felt their needs weren’t being met by the regional operation.
South County chamber officials have denied that smaller, local businesses are being overlooked.
