Council Candidates’ Forums Scheduled
The campaign for Torrance City Council will get under way in earnest this weekend with the first of eight forums where candidates will discuss issues facing the city.
Two incumbents and eight challengers are competing for three seats in the March 3 election, producing the most competitive Torrance election in years.
The first forum is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the New Horizons Clubhouse, 22727 Maple Ave. The other forums, sponsored by a variety of community groups, are:
* Monday, 7:30 p.m., Southwood Homeowners, Anza Elementary School, 21400 Ellinwood Drive.
* Thursday, 7:30 p.m., Riviera Homeowners, Riviera Elementary School, 365 Paseo de Arena.
* Feb. 10, 7 p.m., 2800 Plaza del Amo.
* Feb. 13, 7:30 p.m., Northwest Torrance Homeowners, North High School, 3620 W. 182nd St.
* Feb. 19, 7:30 p.m. Southeast Torrance Homeowners, Hull Middle School, 2080 231st St.
* Feb. 20, 5:30 p.m., Torrance City Employees, Civic Center Library meeting room, 3300 Torrance Blvd.
* Feb. 27, 7 p.m., Torrance League of Women Voters, Civic Center Library meeting room, 3300 Torrance Blvd.
