VENTURA : City Seeks Agency to Run Planned Shelter
The city of Ventura is seeking proposals from social service agencies that want to use $350,000 in city funds to develop and run a homeless shelter.
“The city has been setting aside funds for three or four years for this project,” said Loretta McCarty, Ventura’s housing project manager. “Homelessness is not only a national issue, it’s also a concern locally. We see the shelter as a definite need in our community.”
Proposals for the project are due Feb. 28, McCarty said. Applicants are being asked to identify a site and tell how they would run the facility.
In addition to setting aside funds for the shelter, the city has committed $200,000 to the Ventura Salvation Army for development of a transitional family shelter at the organization’s existing facility on Oak Street.
