ROUNDUP : 70-Foot Basket by Ulloa Gives Hoover Win
Dave Ulloa’s 70-foot basket at the buzzer gave Hoover High a 57-54 win over Pasadena in a Pacific League basketball game Thursday night at Pasadena.
Pasadena had tied the score, 54-54, on a layup with five seconds to play. But Ulloa, a 5-foot-9 senior guard, took the ensuing inbounds pass and lofted a shot that found net at the other end of the court.
Chad Reese scored a game-high 28 points to lead Hoover (10-10, 2-4 in league play), which narrowly avoided a fifth overtime contest in its past seven games. Ulloa finished with 15 points and Gabe Alvarado had 11 rebounds.
In other boys’ basketball games:
Crescenta Valley 60, Glendale 49--Josh Willis scored 22 points to lead Crescenta Valley (13-7, 5-1) in a Pacific League game at Glendale. Mike Wright scored 21 points for Glendale.
Schurr 55, Burbank 46--David Ranney scored 14 points for host Burbank (5-14, 2-4) in a Foothill League game.
First Lutheran 51, Viewpoint 49--Sophomore guard Dan Mancinelli scored a game-high 27 points to lead First Lutheran (8-8, 3-3) in a Heritage League game at Viewpoint. Joel Hernandez added 16 points for First Lutheran. Paul Lively led Viewpoint with 25 points.
Highland Hall 73, Oak Hill 21--John Klejnot had 20 points and 13 rebounds and Jake Hooper had 18 rebounds to lead visiting Highland Hall (10-4, 5-1) in a Westside League game.
Edward Anastas scored 17 points and Dave Antrim added 16 for Highland Hall, which led, 41-10, at halftime.
Campbell Hall 73, Buckley 44--Austin McKellar scored 18 points and Alex Lopez had 12 points and five blocks to lead host Campbell Hall (12-6, 6-2) in a Delphic League game.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Thousand Oaks 65, Newbury Park 33--Michelle Palmisano scored a game-high 32 points for the Lancers (19-1, 9-0) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Sasha Scardino added 13 points for Thousand Oaks, ranked No. 2 in Southern Section Division I.
Buena 68, Dos Pueblos 26--Mikko Giordano scored a game-high 22 points to lead Buena (16-1, 9-0 ) in a Channel League game at home. April Buck added 15 points.
Westlake 54, Channel Islands 38--Lauren Goldstine had 17 points and 13 rebounds for host Westlake (16-4, 8-1) in a Marmonte League game. Shanon Sincock had 16 points and Marlee Organ added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Alemany 56, Chaminade 38--Center Sarah Guziel scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to spark the visiting Indians (17-4, 5-1) to a Mission League victory. Guard Rachel Corelli added 13 points for Alemany and held Chaminade standout Maria Costa to five. The Eagles fell to 13-8, 2-4 in league play.
Glendale 52, Crescenta Valley 33--Jenny Dalton had 20 points and 12 rebounds to guide the host Dynamiters (16-7, 5-1) to a Pacific League win.
Tracy Young added 10 points and four steals for the Dynamiters.
Notre Dame 49, St. Paul 46--Shanon McGlothlin scored 20 points and hit three consecutive free throws in the final minute as the host Knights (7-12, 1-5) came from behind to win their first Mission League game. Sharon Marciniak had 13 points, five assists and four steals.
St. Bonaventure 43, Carpinteria 23--Denice Babby scored 15 points and added eight rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots for the Seraphs (9-9, 4-2) in a Tri-Valley League game.
Bell-Jeff 65, Louisville 45--Lori Leone scored 18 points and Jany Despotov added 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead the visiting Guards (18-3, 5-0) to a San Fernando League victory.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Master’s 93, Pacific Christian 43--Forward Tom Bruner scored a game-high 17 points to lead host Master’s in a nonconference game.
Jason Webster added 14 points and Ted Hahs had 10 for the Mustangs (16-8), who held a 44-24 lead at halftime.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Oak Park 8, Bishop Diego 0--Jeff Gibbons had two goals and three assists and Mike Michaud added two goals and an assist for host Oak Park (10-2-3, 7-0-2) in a Tri-Valley League match.
Chatsworth 1, Granada Hills 0--With 15 minutes remaining, Dan Nash scored for Chatsworth in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Granada Hills.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Burroughs 3, San Gabriel 0--Sonia Medina had a goal and an assist for Burroughs (9-3-1, 5-1) in a Foothill League match.
