No Shortage of Views on Myers and the Homeless

Where are the homeless to go? We all know there is “no room at the inn” for them. So, instead of sleeping in the parks, what would citizens prefer? That the homeless break into cars, schools and churches and sleep there? That they mug and steal to get funds for lodging? That we all form a coalition with political clout and demand some basic rights like housing and medical care? I’m all for the latter, but until that happens I think we ought to let the homeless have at least a grassy knoll to sleep on at night.

And thank you, Robert M. Myers, Santa Monica city attorney, for showing us the beauty of compassion--all the more beautiful because of its political cost. The heat you’re getting on this issue shows how hardened our hearts have become.
