Claremont : Hillside Project Opposed
Citing possible future problems, the City Council agreed Tuesday to oppose a proposed hillside residential development on nearby county land.
The plan to develop 30 houses in Webb Canyon is scheduled for review by the county Board of Supervisors in March. The council will seek to stop the plan, which is twice as dense as would be allowed in the city. The building plan also includes use of septic tanks.
If future residents force annexation, council members said, the city would be left with a substandard development and the bill for the sewer service.
City staff reports also said the development would have immediate effects on the surrounding areas, including an increase in traffic and overflow from the septic tanks in rainy weather.
The council’s next meeting will be March 17.
