2 Students to Compete for Arts Scholarships
Amy Janel Carter, 17, who attends La Canada High School, and Gregory Jefferson, 15, of Pasadena, a student at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, are among 12 students who will compete for scholarships at the Music Center Spotlight Awards.
Amy will compete in ballet and Gregory in classical instrumental music. Finalists were selected from 400 high school students who applied for the awards. Other categories are modern dance, opera, pop/musical theater vocal and jazz instrumental music. The performances will be at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles at 7:30 p.m. on March 10. Winners in each category will receive $5,000 scholarships and runners-up will get $2,500.
