OUTLOOK

Magnolia has been on the verge of winning the league title the past two seasons. The Sentinels finished a half-game behind Brea-Olinda two years ago and were a game out last season. Could this finally be the year the Sentinels win it all? “This should be another close one,” Sharp said. “Each team has lost some players, and each have only about four or five returning. It’ll be tight, but I would say it will be between Brea, Valencia and us for the league title.” Corder and Sharp are the Sentinels’ key returning players. Both were all-league selections in baseball and soccer last season. Corder hit .350 last season while Sharp hit .357. Hughes is one of the team’s most promising young players, having hit .315 as a sophomore last season. The Sentinels could have the league’s top infield. Dyer is one of the finest defensive third basemen Sharp has coached, and Martin, a transfer from Mater Dei, is also a solid defensive player. “I think our strong point is defense,” Sharp said. “We have our entire infield back except our shortstop, and Dustin is a fine shortstop.” One question for the Sentinels could be experience on the pitching staff.
