Sieffert Helps Capistrano Valley Pull Away
SAN GABRIEL — Eric Sieffert scored 12 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter to help Capistrano Valley defeat Alhambra, 71-55, in a Southern Section Division I-AA quarterfinal game Friday night at San Gabriel High.
Capistrano Valley will play Long Beach Jordan, a 77-61 winner over Simi Valley, in the semifinals Tuesday night.
Alhambra (19-8), which trailed, 35-25, at halftime, closed to within 49-45 when Hon Trieu completed a three-point play to start the fourth quarter. But the Cougars responded with a 7-0 run as Sieffert scored six points.
Capistrano Valley (26-3) never led by fewer than nine for the rest of the game. David Sedgwick led the Cougars with 16 points.
Cougar Coach Mark Thornton praised Sieffert’s effort at both ends of the court.
“Sieffert really did a job tonight,” Thornton said. “He did his best work on defense.”
