HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL GIRLS’ PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Ledet Powers Washington Past Van Nuys, 64-42
Keshana Ledet scored a game-high 23 points to lead Washington High to a 64-42 victory over Van Nuys in a City quarterfinal girls’ playoff game Friday night at Washington.
Ledet, who also had 13 rebounds, scored 11 in the final quarter after teammate Charisse Sampson left the game with a minor concussion.
Sampson, a 5-foot-11 senior guard, was taken to the hospital for observation but is expected to play in the Generals’ semifinal game Tuesday against Dorsey.
Crenshaw will meet Banning in the other semifinal. The four remaining teams are from the Southern Pacific Conference.
Washington (26-2) built a 27-9 lead after the first period.
Van Nuys finished 20-3.
Huntington Park 59, Venice 58--Irene Burruss made a jump shot with just over a minute left to give the Spartans their winning points in the 3-A game at Huntington Park.
Burruss finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds and Maritza Cruz scored 19 for Huntington Park (18-4).
Venice (12-3), which rallied from a seven-point deficit in the third quarter to take a 52-51 lead with four minutes remaining, wasted three opportunities to go ahead in the final minute.
Dorsey 47, Carson 46--Calota Odom made a layup with 31 seconds left to give Dorsey (13-6) a 47-46 advantage and its only lead in a 4-A game at Carson.
Donna Lincoln had 17 points for Dorsey. Bernice Alafua scored 16 points for Carson (16-7).
Crenshaw 72, North Hollywood 50--Cathleen Grice scored a game-high 22 points and Kimberly House had 15 for visiting Crenshaw (20-4), which rallied from a 16-2 first-quarter deficit in the 4-A game.
Karma Goodman led North Hollywood (18-5) with 17 points.
Wilmington Banning 45, Woodland Hills El Camino Real 29--The host Pilots limited the Conquistadores to eight points or fewer in three quarters of the 4-A game.
Michelle Campbell had 15 points and 19 rebounds for Banning (17-5).
Jefferson 68, University 58--Ruth Flores had 22 points for visiting Jefferson (21-5), which led by as many as 18 points in the third period of the 3-A game.
