OUTLOOK
Clewett, who helped transform the Colonists from a 4-18 team in 1990 to a 10-6 team last season, returns for her second year as Anaheim’s coach. The Colonists achieved their best league finish in 10 years, placing third. They made the playoffs but lost an extra-inning game to Foothill in the first round. Only three players off that team have graduated. “We are an average team,” Clewett said. “But when we can get it together, we can give the other teams a fight.” Clewett will need to fill spots at first base, right field and left field. Lopez should get the starting job at right field, according to Clewett, and Salas, a junior varsity player last year, should win the first-base job. Clewett is undecided about the left-field position. Sanchez leads the returners in batting average, hitting .281 last season. The team’s No. 2 batter is Duenas (.251). Mounger and Donovan played together last season and should benefit from that experience. Mounger had a fielding average of .950.
