PREP ROUNDUP : Huntington Beach Rolls Into Tournament Final

Huntington Beach advanced to the championship game of the Loara baseball tournament with a 10-2 victory over Diamond Bar Thursday at Huntington Beach.

Derek Glascoe pitched a two-hitter for the Oilers (4-0). Huntington Beach scored a run in the first inning, then got four in the second and three in the third. Mike Moutrey had four hits, drove in three runs and scored three.

Huntington Beach plays El Dorado in the title game Saturday at 7 p.m. at Glover Stadium.

Diamond Bar is 3-1.

In other Loara tournament games:

El Dorado 3, Loara 2--Tyson DowDell pitched a two-hitter, allowing one earned run while striking out 13 and walking two, for visiting El Dorado (4-0). Shawn Holcomb’s seventh inning single drove in Benito Flores with the winning run. Loara is 3-1.

In the Newport Elks tournament:

Mater Dei 11, Corona del Mar 8--Mike McDonald had a two-run homer and drove in another run with a single during Mater Dei’s eight-run second inning as the Monarchs advanced to the championship game. Mater Dei’s eight runs erased a 5-0 Corona del Mar lead. Andy Castro relieved in the second for the Monarchs (3-0) and struck out eight while earning the victory. McDonald was three for four with three runs batted in.

Mater Dei will play Capistrano Valley in Saturday’s tournament final at 2 p.m. at Tustin High. Tim DeCinces had three hits, including a home run, for Corona del Mar (2-1).

Capistrano Valley 7, Foothill 6 (8 innings)--Danny Geiss scored the winning run for host Capistrano Valley on an infield hit by Greg Payne in the eighth inning.

Capistrano Valley (3-0) scored a run in the seventh to tie it, 6-6, after Foothill had scored twice in the top of the inning to take a 6-5 lead.

In the semifinals of the Glendora baseball tournament:

Canyon 5, Rialto Eisenhower 2--Matt Wood singled in John Schumacher to tie it, 2-2, in the bottom of the sixth, and the Comanches (3-0) capitalized on three Eisenhower errors in the inning to score three more runs. Jarrod Kula earned the victory, and Matt Wood struck out two in the seventh to earn the save. Canyon will play Santa Fe Springs St. Paul in the 6:30 p.m. final Saturday at Henderson Field in Glendora.

In the El Segundo tournament:

Edison 5, Simi Valley 3--Shawn Allbee pitched a five-hitter, struck out 15 and walked none for Edison (3-0). Bill Mullee had three hits, drove in two runs and stole three bases for Edison.

Brea-Olinda 14, Torrance 5--Host Brea scored 11 times on 10 hits in the sixth inning. Paul Garcia had four hits and scored three runs, and Jason Luevanos had three hits, scored three runs and drove in three for Brea (3-1).

In nonleague softball:

Garden Grove 2, Foothill 1 (11 innings)--Kim Taylor threw a two-hitter and Nakia Houston hit a home run for host Garden Grove, which upset the No. 1-ranked team in the county.

Cypress 12, Savanna 1--Monica Jimenez and Julie Adams combined on a no-hitter for Cypress (2-0), and Liz Moore hit a grand slam.

In nonleague golf:

Edison 224, Western 230--David Searle shot a three-over 38 to lead the Chargers (2-2) at SeaCliff. Tiger Woods shot a one-under 35 for Western (1-1).

In nonleague boys’ track and field:

Villa Park 71, Capistrano Valley 65--Anchor Micah Ramirez made up a five-yard deficit to give Villa Park the deciding victory in the 1,600-meter relay. He and teammates Sean Tully, Jeff Birney and Aaron Conder beat Capistrano Valley by three-tenths of a second. In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Laguna Beach 3, El Toro 0--Eric Fegraus had 19 kills and Chris Seale added 14 for host Laguna Beach (2-0), which won, 15-7, 15-13, 15-6.

Marina 3, Corona del Mar 2--Host Marina won a 3 1/2-hour match, 13-15, 7-15, 15-4, 15-9, 18-16. Derek Slingsby had 31 kills and Ryan Steelberg had 110 assists, which is believed to be a school record.
