Kendall Runs Hit Streak to 37 Games
Torrance High catcher Jason Kendall extended his state-record hitting streak to 37 games Saturday, but the Tartars lost to La Mirada, 15-7, in a consolation-round game of the El Segundo tournament at Torrance Park.
Kendall had two singles and a double in four at-bats to improving his batting average to .643 (nine for 14). Torrance dropped to 1-3.
Kendall broke the state record for longest hitting streak by doubling in his final at-bat last week in the Tartars’ season-opening 10-5 victory over Paramount. He entered the season sharing the record with Jakob Jensen of North Hollywood Highland Hall at 33 games.
“I was pumped, real excited,” Kendall said of his record. “I think this will be around for a while. It’s a hard thing to do.”
