2nd Amendment Needs Protecting

The narrow-minded editorial policies of The Times never cease to amaze me. I am referring to your “Err on the Side of Freedom” editorial of March 11, which said: “The constitutional guarantees of free assembly and free speech are especially precious rights that deserve the strongest possible protection--even when practiced by unpopular people or groups.”

The Second Amendment also deserves the strongest possible protection--even when abused by drug dealers and murderers. The same wording that appears in the constitutional guarantees that you support is also used in the amendment you criticized the week before. The right to keep and bear arms allows us the ability to defend our other constitutional rights if we ever need to.

Many times in the past there have been people who have lost their rights because they did not have the ability to take up arms to defend them. It is my sincere hope that someday The Times will support the entire Constitution, including the Second Amendment, instead of just supporting those amendments The Times finds politically correct.
