LAGUNA NIGUEL : Senior Center Gets Preliminary OK
The City Council has given preliminary approval to plans for a $2.2-million senior citizens’ center scheduled to open late next year.
The building, expected to be built on a 3 1/2-acre site at the southwest corner of Aliso Creek Road and Moulton Parkway, will include a multipurpose room, an exercise area, a library and a stage.
Plans for the center were based on visits to about nine other senior centers in the county to see how members of those organizations use their facilities, said Roger Lance, a member of the Laguna Niguel Senior Citizens Club board.
The 13,500-square-foot structure is expected to be available to the community at large for such activities as banquets and evening adult classes.
The city has already set aside $1.7 million for the new center. To raise the additional money, the city will solicit state and federal grants and the senior citizens club will hold fund-raisers, City Manager Tim Casey said.
